Welcome to the Weird Witch Blog!

There’s something weird about witchcraft. Literally no two people practice it exactly the same way. Between all of the different religions that use witchcraft as central component, the people who practice it in a solitary capacity, and the different cultures and ideas that influence everyone’s practice, you could ask every witch the same questions and get as many different answers as there are stars in the sky. Hell, I’m in a coven and you if you asked us individually for a spell for a specific thing you’d still get a different answer out of each of us.

When you think about most other organized or semi organized activities, especially religions, this isn’t usually how things work. Most organized religions have specific guidelines that need to be followed. Not witchcraft. Most hobbies have standard practices or accepted ways of doing things. Not witchcraft. Witchcraft is malleable and chaotic. It’s methods are contradictory and confusing and it’s impossible to know where to start.

And that’s one of the reasons that I love it.

I love the ability to choose what works for any given person in any given situation. The ability to decide that the way everyone likes to do it just doesn’t feel right to you and you want to work it in an entirely different way. The ability to focus on any aspect that you want just because it interests you and completely ignore the things that don’t grab you. And there is such a huge wealth of information and topics that you can always find something that catches your interest, no matter who you are.

When it comes to magick, I tend to think of myself at this point as a jack of some trades, master of absolutely none. I am still a student in the craft and suspect that I always will be, which is exciting! The things that I study tend to be whatever I’m drawn to for one reason on another. I tend to hop from subject to subject depending on the whims of my hopelessly easily distracted brain. And I love a good rabbit hole. I could be working on a spell for, say, harmony at work. I decide that I want to make my own loose incense for the ritual, and start looking at herbs and plants that would compliment that intention. As I’m reading I see that rosemary is commonly used for purification instead of sage and I jump in to learn more. Fast forward a few hours and many new tabs later and I’m watching a video about the use of charm casting as  a supplement for your tarot readings and have the sudden urge to raid my jewelry box for charms. This tendency has its pros and cons; it means that there are a lot of weird and obscure corners of the magical world that I am at least aware of, but that I don’t have a terribly in depth knowledge about many. Though recently, I’ve been trying to focus in on a few subjects and really get a better handle on them.

And that’s really what this is all about. Join me as I hyper focus on one subject at a time. Or bounce from topic to topic. Either course is possible. Maybe you’ll learn something with me. Maybe you’ll discover something with me. Maybe I’ll choose something that you love and you can laugh as I struggle through it. Either way, it will be a great time for all involved!
